Last updated: Feb 4 2026

1. Data Collection

The OWSH A11y Check browser extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data or browsing information. All accessibility analysis happens entirely within your browser.

2. How the Extension Works

  • All WCAG accessibility checks are performed locally in your browser.
  • No data is sent to external servers for analysis.
  • No cookies are set.
  • No tracking or analytics of any kind.
  • No account or login required.

3. What the Extension Analyzes

When you click the extension icon, it performs 15+ WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility checks:

  • Color contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Images missing alt text, empty alt on content images, and generic alt text
  • Form inputs without proper labels
  • Missing or generic page title
  • Document language attribute
  • Heading structure (missing H1, skipped levels, multiple H1s)
  • Empty links, generic link text, and new window warnings
  • Empty buttons and missing accessible names
  • Landmark regions (main, nav, header, footer)
  • Skip navigation links
  • Focus indicators removed via CSS
  • Invalid ARIA roles
  • Data tables without headers
  • Touch target sizes (minimum 44×44px)
  • Text size accessibility (minimum 12px)
  • Auto-playing media and positive tabindex issues

This analysis is performed entirely in your browser. No page content is transmitted anywhere.

4. Permissions Explained

  • activeTab: Required to analyze the current webpage's accessibility when you click the extension icon. The extension can only access the tab you're viewing and only when you activate it.
  • scripting: Required to inject the analysis script that checks for accessibility issues and to highlight elements on the page when you use the "Highlight" feature.

5. Network Requests

The extension makes no network requests. All analysis is performed locally using the page content already loaded in your browser. No data is sent to OWSH servers or any third party.

6. Copy Report Feature

The extension includes a "Copy Report" button that copies the accessibility analysis results to your clipboard in markdown format. This data stays on your device and is only shared if you choose to paste it somewhere.

7. External Links

The extension provides optional links to external resources:

Clicking these links is entirely optional and requires user action.

8. Updates

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. The extension will always maintain its commitment to local-only analysis with no data collection.
